Hello Neighbors! Some reminders from incidents that have come up in recent weeks in LITW. Thank you in advance for taking time to review:
- FRONT GATE – Homeowners SHOULD NOT use the NEW resident gate lane if towing a trailer, boat etc. Please use the main gate so the guard can monitor the trailer as it passes through the gate to ensure the arm does not come down on the towed vehicle. The resident entry is simply not designed for excessive length vehicles and can be easily damaged. The new LITW resident gate was knocked down by a large boat moving through the resident lane earlier this week. Thank you!
- SAFETY – Neighborhood walkers are encouraged to use or walk closer to the sidewalks and not walk 2 or 3 abreast in the street. This behavior creates a dangerous safety situation for both the walker and the driver. In addition, some walkers, who wear ear pieces, may not be aware of approaching vehicles behind them. For both drivers and walkers: Be aware of one another on the roadway. Thank You!
- DOG STUFF – Annual Reminder and Review for dog owners of Hernando County Ordinance Chapter 6 – Article II Sections 24 and 28. Section 24 (a)(e)(g)(h) – (a)The owner, harborer or person having possession, custody or control of any dog shall ensure that the dog does not stray or in any manner run at large in or upon any public street, sidewalk, right-of-way or any other public property or on the private property of another, provided, however, that such dog may be off the premises of the owner or harborer if the dog is leashed and under direct control. (e) Officers are authorized to impound any animal which is witnessed at large and are authorized to enter onto private property, including that of the owner, without permission, with the exception of a structure, dwelling, or fenced and gated yard or area to continue an active pursuit of an animal to attempt to capture the animal for impoundment. (g) Any person owning or harboring any animal shall ensure that the animal does not cause damage to the property of another individual. The owner of any animal in violation of this section shall be in violation of this chapter. (h)The owner, harborer, or any person having possession, charge, custody, care or control of any animal that is in violation of this section shall be liable regardless of the knowledge, intent or culpability of the owner. Section 28 – The owner or harborer of an animal shall be responsible for the removal of any excreta deposited by the animal upon any public walk, path, street, park, recreation area, or private property not their own. Any owner or harborer walking their dog on any property other than their own shall carry a suitable device for removal of excreta or be in violation of this chapter. A suitable device can be a commercial device or a plastic bag or any other device with which excreta can be removed in a sanitary manner. (Ord. No. 2012-12, § 3, 11-13-12; Ord. No. 2018-6, § 9, 3-27-18) Reviewing these simple ownership ordinances from Hernando County helps our LITW Community remain safe and respectable for both owners and non-owners of pets. Thank you!
